What is The Floor Is Lava?
A classroom random name picker with a volcanic twist. Each student stands on a stone above a cartoon lava lake. The class hops between stones through three tremors, then students escape with parachutes one by one. The last student left on a stone above the lava loses and is called on to answer, speak, or join the next activity.
How to play
- Enter one name per line, up to 60 students per round.
- Choose 10, 15, or 25 seconds. Enable removal if you want to work through the class without repeats.
- Select “Let the lava rise!”. Watch students hop across the stones, then escape with parachutes.
- The last student left below loses and answers the question. Select “Prepare next round” to continue.
Tip: use full screen when projecting for your class. Sound can be muted while the full round continues.
Random selection, suspense until the end
Every entry has the same chance of losing. Escape order is shuffled at the start; one student stays behind while everyone else escapes with a parachute. Appearance, stone position, and tremors do not affect the result. With removal enabled, only the losing entry is removed when you prepare the next round; all escaped students can play again. Duplicate names remain separate entries.
Frequently asked questions
Do students control the jumps?
No. Characters hop automatically. The teacher enters names and starts the round. This is a name picker, so reflexes do not affect the result.
Is it free?
Yes. No account is needed. Use a phone or computer, or project the arena in full screen.
Is the list shared with UFO Random?
Yes. Names are saved in your browser and shared with UFO Random, Animal Race, Wheel, and Team Generator.
Can I play with only one student left?
Yes. The remaining student is picked after the animation. Once the list is empty, add more names to play again.
