What is a duck race name picker

A duck race picks one random name by running a race. You type a list of names and each name is given to a duck. The whole flock starts together, and the first duck to touch the finish line decides who is picked.

Unlike drawing slips of paper, everyone in the room can watch and cheer, so the result feels fair to all.

    What the ducks look like

When every racer is a duck, the grass track turns into water and the ducks swim instead of run. Only the duck race does this.

    • Six colours: yellow, white, brown, mallard, blue-grey and pink.
    • Each duck is a slightly different size and length.
    • Colour and shape come from the name itself, so the same name always gives the same duck.

How to run a duck race

    1. Type your names, one per line, up to 60 names.
    2. Pick a race length: 10, 20 or 30 seconds.
    3. Press “Start race” and wait for the first duck to finish.
    4. Press “New race” to pick the next name.

When to use the duck race

    • Calling on students at the start of a lesson. Ducks suit younger classes.
    • Warming up a meeting or a training session.
    • Picking a giveaway winner on a livestream, where viewers can follow the whole flock.

With a large class, choose 30 seconds so students have time to find their own duck. Press “Full screen” when you show it on a projector.

    Common questions

Is one duck colour faster than the others?

No. Every duck follows the same random speed rule. Colour and size are only visuals.

Why do the ducks swim instead of run?

When all racers are ducks, the track turns into water. If you switch to “Mix all four”, the ducks run on grass with the chickens, dogs and snakes.

How do I stop the same person being picked twice?

Tick “Remove the winner from the next race”. The duck that just won is left out of the next race.
